Re: L400 diesel engine issues

Hiya David! Not sure about the high RPM as that can be a few things. It definitely should run around 2400RPM at 100/hr on flat ground no head wind. I'm in the prairies (Manitoba) so no big hills or mountain passes here. hahaha As for the dying while driving, that sounds like the Injection pump seal....

Re: Series 2 Delica New to me

The wheels came with the van, a little too aggressive tires for my liking and 2 out of 4 had a lot of wear so they are getting changed. Yeah its got a good stance to it with a mild lift, fender flares and a slight offset rim. The only real hiccup I've found was not all headlights are created equal. ...

Hiya James! Welcome to the wonderful world of Delicas. This forum is definitely not as lively as it used to be but still has a lot of good info and great members. For a large amount of deep diving to do anything, the UK forum and Australia forum are full of great info. They get 5 and 10 year imports...

Re: mystery coolant loss

I would second the expansion tank, if nothing else is noticeable. Its a common failure. There is a overseas guy making aluminum ones. The price seems high but, well worth it. http://www.tigweld4u.com/delica-expansion-tank.htm I've had one installed for 6 years and its been amazing. I always seem to ...

Re: 4m40 Transmission "growl" on throttle increase in 4th gear

Hiya Rhino, Do you have any clunks when shifting into drive from park. A u-joint that is going can give some interesting vibrations and "road noise" at certain RPMs. I have change my rear one a few times, that is at the rear diff connecting to the driveshaft. A crawl underneath to give it ...

Re: Dealer vs Private

21k for a 1997 with 190k on the odometer? That price seems steep to me for a 24 year old vehicle. I'd be interested what grade it was at auction. I've noticed a lot of BC dealers increasing the older delicas for USA sale which I understand is a huge market to tap into, but that van definitely doesn'...

I was very surprised to find no other damage.

Re: It's time for a new Delica, but which one?

Awesome! thanks for the response Wayne. What is the best way to contact you? PM? I am pretty mechanically inclined and am willing to attack painful jobs myself. I have tools, a garage and a spouse who'll let me borrow their car when mine is on stands for a few days. I've done the IP seal and most re...

It's time for a new Delica, but which one?

Hello All, I am a long time lurker, medium time owner, sometimes poster. A little back story I have had my 1994 SWB L400 2.8 Super exceed with the crystal lites for about 8 years, have put a little over 120k on the clock and now am in the place where its time to get a new to me vehicle. Sitting at 3...

Re: Brake rotors / pads - where to get?

Hiya Jbourne, Rear rotor and pads can be had at any parts store. I went with the same year montero( Which I feel I found in a sticky somewhere uk or aussie or here maybe?) . Front rotors are the issue, they are specific to L400s and are bigger than their montero counterpart. Pads though for the fron...

Hiya! I defininely am more of a lurker than poster. I joined the forum back in 2007, bought a SWB L400 in 2011 maybe 2012 off of another manitoba member and have just been enjoying that JDM van life. I find when diagnosing I am looking more to the UK or aussie site as they seem to be waaay more acti...

Help Needed !! Mechanics in Manitoba

Hiya! that sounds terrible. I usually do all my own work on my L400. What happened? Maybe I can help diagnose which would help when going to a shop.

Any other Winnipeggers having trouble this week?

You may be the lucky recipient of a bad glow plug, depending on where you got them from they could have been damaged in shipping. Something easy to check even in the cold is your block heater itself, if its shorting out you would also get the condition you are describing, ie not turning on. With a m...
