If you have a voltage meter you can test to see if you are getting 14 volts coming out of it. You just need to find the alternator then put the probes on the corrisponding terminals.(you know + on + and - on -) Haven't tried but any auto electronic rebuild place should be able to do the repair. good...

I hear you about them being exposed. And after seeing what happened with mine on the trip, I have to say that they aren't gonna help as much as get in the way when doing any off-roading.(less clearance) Will be looking into changing things up over the next little bit as well.
