Shift lever linkage

The bit about the linkage being under the steering column is odd- is it a column shift manual? Wait.. it's an L400 not an L300 isn't it. Big blobby thing, flat floor between the front and rear seats? The last L300 Chamonix was a 1993, the last 4WD L300s were made in 2000 and they were GL grade (thou...

1991 L300 A/C Condenser Leak

The '91s were still using R12, which is the ozone depleting chemical that gave my Mum skin cancer. No pressure or judgement ;-) but the correct way to drain it is to take it to an AC shop where they'll drain it out, flush the system, and dispose of the R12 correctly. They drain it through the fill/d...

LOL! It only looks that way because if someone asks something I don't know, I tend not to say anything. :-)

Delayed Starting & Low Idle

Changing the fuel filter is a good idea. Delayed starting is usually from air leaking into the IP and lines, and the usual culprit is split fuel hoses. Check the ends of all the fuel hoses for splits: perished.jpg You can usually just cut an inch off the hose to get past the split part. Also look fo...

L300 Leaking fuel injection pump head

Seems to monitor the throttle position but for what purpose? Primarily for the Exhaust Gas Recirculation. The ECU only allows EGR when the engine's hot, running over 1500rpm (from memory), at low load (throttle position). At idle or high load you want EGR to turn off. Secondary use is for the glow ...

An L300 is a Dodge D50 Diesel, it's just put on a bit of weight. ;-)

Video: How a Fuel Injection Pump works

This is great! If anyone didn't appreciate just how old-school our engines are, here's a 1980's video, complete with PSA voiceover and non-ironic beard.

Gas in Diesel. Endgame.

It could be a burnt valve or valve seat, but that would usually show *some* compression. Zero compression means a very large hole. It could also be the head gasket- but again, if there's zero compression you'd hear the air chuffing out the gasket when the engine was being cranked. There's only one w...

White Exhaust Smoke on warm up

That does look like steam to me. Lots of steam. Coolant leaks showing up by the alternator are usually from the water pump, either the main seal (new pump needed) or the O-ring on the back of the pump which seals the heater bypass pipe. Neither fault would cause coolant to be in the exhaust though. ...

Vent Selector Cable

You've put this in L300 technical, but your profile says you have an L400. The answer's the same though: head over to mitsubishi.epc-data.com , enter your frame number, which will load a parts catalogue specific to your vehicle. Navigate to Heater,AC,Ventilation -> Heater Control. That'll bring up a...

Can't help with the new engine, but swapping the old one out is fairly straightforward. It's done through the top, through the passenger door. Here's a writeup on swapping the diesel with pictures showing how it comes out. http://www.delica.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=18559

No, I found Nissan Micra/March/Tiida/Cube suspension bushes that fit in the crossmember mounts. It's here in the TRL: http://www.delica.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=18741

Well, crap. That's the worst case. Sounds like a damaged piston, which, yeah, probably cheaper to buy a new engine than fix the old one.

"Is there a reason you can't use the starter to bleed the IP as well? "
I think it would take a long time, as you're trying to flush out the whole IP interior and the injectors don't move very much fuel.

Gas in Diesel. Endgame.

Nah, it's fine. It sounds like the mechanic thinks they're dealing with a modern diesel engine, where a bit of gas will ruin everything. The 4D56 is not a modern: it's a tractor engine, a bit of gas isn't going to destroy it instantly. No need to replace anything expensive yet, start with the cheap ...
