US Version '87 Van Wagon (?)

I second all the suggestions above. Also inspect the exhaust manifold for cracks and expect to have it welded; this is not that hard to deal with and may have to wait until you buy it. But yeah, they all crack.. always

A 1989 Vanwagon for your amusement

I reviewed your posts on your blog, and how you had the in-tank filter clog. I remember when I mentioned to pull the tank and have it coated inside; right now there is probably alot of corrosion and junk in the gas tank. I used POR-15's gas tank cleaning agent, prep liquid, and tank coating; it's ki...

Re: 1988 2.4L Van Wagon turn key no click at all once in a w

If the small wire to the back of the solenoid has dirt and corrosion, then it can get a starting problem when warm. I have seen this happen. I would get some contact cleaner, and clean the contact (wire side), and then maybe get a little sandpaper and slip into the connector and give it a little mor...

Re: 1988 Van Wagon auto trans - anyone installed new filters

You will note that the upper part of dipstick tube is secured using a bolt. You will need to have the van up on jack stands to service the transmission. You will notice that there is a place near the end of the engine cradle tube that you can support with the stands. There is no place on the body to...

Re: 1988 Van Wagon auto trans - anyone installed new filters

Just take the pan off, and you will see the bolts that hold the filter in. I got my kit from Autozone for 12-15. If you want more instructions on the transmission; the L300 transmission is the same as the Mighty Max automatic. You maybe able to find a writeup by the Mighty Max guys, or a service man...

Re: 88 Van Wagon - biggest battery that fits?

You will notice that the battery tray is designed to hold two batteries like in the diesel L300. So of course, you can just fit one large battery. I believe the Diesel guys sometimes do this too.

Re: Exhaust manifold options for my 1988 2.4L gas engine?

The head is the same as the 4G64 used on some of the Mighty Max (MM, later version). I have looked at the exhaust manifold on the MM and except for a possiable difference in the tilt of the pipe flange, they should be interchangeable. HOWEVER, I will tell you this now, you will be hard pressed to fi...

Re: 1988 Van Wagon seat covers - anyone find a good fit?

Mitsubishi USA, however, actually sold the Vanwagon... Do they not back their product? The problem is that Mitsubishi USA no longer stocks some parts. They are limited to what they have on hand, and when that it gone. They do tend to have poor support for older models. If the van has low support, t...

Re: Two dash lights on - advice?

For oil, you should use Shell Rotella T6 5w40. It is rated for mixed fleet use, and has higher molybdenum content that Mobil 1 5w40. The zinc and phosphorus content is the same or a little higher. And T6 is also less expensive and more available than Mobil 1 5w40. Autozone and Walmart have it in gal...

Re: 1989 Mitsubishi Van/Wagon: engine error codes

Additional info on the car performance: rough idle; engine excessive vibration; I suspect rich fuel/air mixture: spark plugs show a little black carbon deposits and exhaust fume smells gas. When cold, the Van starts with the help of the gas pedal to maintain 650-800 rpm., otherwise it goes down to ...

Re: Two dash lights on - advice?

So, my van didn't come with an overflow bottle - the hose is tied off in a knot, yet my radiator icon is always off (but the light works - it does illuminate with the key in the ON position without the engine running. I am now concerned and will go look for this set of wires. I check the radiator l...

Re: New owner, first impressions.

Thanks. I will get more aggressive with the washer bottle next time I fill it. Drove it on the freeway for a couple hours today. Keeps up with traffic nicely at 75. The VW likes 70. I am hoping I can find a right tail light, by the way - in case anyone knows where I might get one. There is a guy on...

Re: Newbie checking in with 88 2WD USA Van Wagon

As for the parts van interior; it is the kind of brown that may of them are. It has the multi-tone type fabric seats. I can ship a seat if needed. The left and right seats maybe able to be made to interchange. However, the rails would have to be changed around from one to the other because the passe...

Re: Newbie checking in with 88 2WD USA Van Wagon

As for the interior pillars, I have the same issue. It maybe possible to take them out, and then get the fuzzy stuff off, and just paint them with plastic compatible spray paint. As for the location of the parts van, think central USA. So, shipping would be the only way to do anything. Rockauto is O...

Re: Newbie checking in with 88 2WD USA Van Wagon

The rear interior parts of the these vans are very easy to break (old 80's plastic), and Mitsubishi of course does not carry anything any more. I am planning to remove the lower plastic panels and do something like replace them with something like wood vernier panels. The rear climate control panel ...
