Re: Getting ahead of rust

I wouldn't grind - wire wheel is all that's really needed. In my experience, this is a wildly difficult and demoralizing job. The open areas that won't rust you can easily clean. The convoluted spots where rust starts are impossible to get at. My last 3 imports I have done a really thorough pressure...

Re: Save Money on Oil Filters?

Thanks! When I bought my first Diahatsu Hijet there was no way I was spending $30 on an oil filter and having it shipped from Vancouver. I took a tap, checked the threads and then went to Canadian Tire and searched until I found a filter that was pretty much the same. $5.99 - and I can buy it with m...

Re: Save Money on Oil Filters?

A filter is a filter is a filter. As long as the threads are the same and it is about the same size so that the gasket seats properly go for it. Doesn't matter what vehicle they're made for, they are all the same inside. Or try fitinpart.sg, I get my diesel oil and fuel filters from there and its li...

Wiring up the rear cigarette lighter so it always has power

You can easily wire a 12v socket directly to your batteries with a little inline fuse. The risk is, as you mentioned, draining your batteries with these appliances. A phone doesn't require much power but a fan might. You could do the math and determine the number of amp hours the appliances require ...

Thoughts on the health of this beautiful Delica.

Best to bring it to a mechanic for a safety inspection. That is pretty routine in Manitoba, I assume also in Ontario. Here one needs a current safety to register and licence a vehicle and you'll get an impartial view of any issues that need attention. Your going to have to spend that money anyway an...

L300 sale price inquiry

Have you sold it yet? Are you getting lots of inquiries? That would indicate your price is too low.

L400 Parts - Cross Referencing part numbers for Napa/Lordco etc?

If you're going to order them, you might as well order them directly. I use fitinpart.sg for filters and other wear items - use your VIN number to confirm - fuel / oil filters are about $11-13 each. For "other" parts try partsouq or amayama, again use your VIN number to access the proper o...

Yes, I've often wondered how dealers are getting these vehicles in and selling them and where the profit comes from. A few thoughts: I need a broker, a dealer may not so there is an immediate saving right there. I'm importing one vehicle - it has to be "the one" ( auction grade 4, minty, n...

I doubt you'll save money bringing a Delica in yourself. I just brought in a Nissan D21 four door pick up through Pacific Coast JDM. A rough idea of shipping costs: brokerage $1500, shipping $2000, port fees $1000. I had Fraser Valley Imports pick it up and store the truck $200, then I flew to Vanco...

Soon to be new Delica owner

I very much enjoyed my experience with Pacific Coast JDM. The staff are friendly, responses to emails were quick and to the point. I've imported many vehicles and this was the best experience by far.

no cold start without block heater

A diesel should still start at -5C without glow plugs, not happily though  . Certainly check that the glow plugs work and the battery is strong but I'd suspect the injectors are somewhat clogged. Run some injector cleaner through the system, you should notice a difference. If not, try removin...

Drive shaft universal joints

Try partsouq, amayama and fitinpart. Use your Vin and see if all three sites agree that's the part. You could also bring a u-joint to a decent driveline shop and they can measure it and find a part that way.

Looking to buy 2.8 TD Space Gear from neighbor

Search the forum, there's tons of information.

Depending on what the out of province inspection turns up, the price is decent.
