Hopefully a Delica owner by next week

Parts aren't hard to find IF you don't mind buying online. Sniff around on partsouq , amayama , and fitinpart (I buy oil and fuel filters there). Before I bought my Townace, I used a Townace Vin number from the Internet to check for parts availability. Another factor I would consider is how mechanic...

Thinking of removing and cleaning injectors

My 2000 Toyota Townace with 2.2 liter 3C diesel won't start below freezing. Truck has 90,000km, about 30,000 of those on mixed fuel. For a number of reasons, I think it is the injectors. Mostly because I run it on 50% oil in the summer and I think everything else is fine. A set of new injectors isn'...

What to look for - buying a 1997 L400 Space Gear?

There should be a few threads on what to look for when buying a deli, sniff around a bit. A safety only ensures that the vehicle is safe, lights, horn, brake pad thickness etc. It doesn't have to have a clutch to pass a safety so you still have to do your due diligence. The owner should be a good so...

Newbie veggie oil question

The foam would for insulation. WVO doesn't flow well at lower temps. Oil that goes back to the tank will be warmer from passing through the IP and near the engine. If you're only planning on using WVO during the summer then the insulation is not important. Then again if you're only going to run WVO ...

Found a Great Place for Used Tires!

I've had the same experience looking for used subaru parts here in Winnipeg. One car over here, another couple over there, some parts in this shed, some in the shop.... My OCD was going nuts. Must be something in the personality that ends up owning places like that, they have the hoarder gene and no...

I use the synthetic 80w90 gear oil in the driveline of all my vehicles. I use conventional 15w40 in the summer in the Strada and the Townace. The Townace gets 0w40 or 5w40 for the winter. I usually buy the Motomaster brand oils at Canadian Tire, I don't really think there is much difference between ...

On the verge of becoming a proud new owner... HOWEVER

It's a smart buy IF you have the time, ability, desire, knowledge and tools to do the repairs. I import vehicles from Japan so I can get quality, low km vehicles in excellent shape, with features not available domestically. 200 km is an automatic deal breaker for me regardless of what work it needs....

Congrats! Sounds like a neat rig. I changed the whole driveline to synthetic 80w90. It is a messy job, a suction gun is a must. I always open the top plug first, don't drain the oil out before you know you can put oil in. Japanese vehicles don't usually have a lot of rust but it is a good procedure ...

Leaking Fuel Tank

There's a product called Seal All, you can buy it at Princess auto and maybe Canadian tire. It seals leaking tanks even if the fuel is dribbling out a pinhole. Lasts quite a while too!

Partsouq has pretty good diagrams. If you enter your VIN, you should be able to look at the diagrams and get parts numbers.

Always good to post some pictures.

What did you do TO your Delica today?

Exhaust manifold bolts breaking is pretty common due to the repeated heating and cooling. You'll want to soak them with penetrant while hot and let cool. I'd recommend being prepared for the worst. Purchase the bolts and nuts, have a drill and taps on hand, bolt extractors (though I generally find t...

Diesels only make fìnancial sense if you're driving a lot of kilometers pulling a trailer or with a heavy load. Diesel vehicles have more expensive filters and oil and diesel is no longer cheaper than gas. The only way I can justify owning two diesel trucks is that for the most part my fuel is free ...
