Yank your Van's fuel injectors in 1 hour!

I don't recall any issues specifically but do remember I was having idle issues - too high I think. From past automotive projects, throttle body cleaning - especially the throttle valve cleaning where it seats and the edge of the butterfly valve itself - has paid dividends. It did here as well. Smal...

Yank your Van's fuel injectors in 1 hour!

On bleeding the pressure - it will bleed off a bit of fuel. Just use common sense safety knowing you will have a flammable substance dripping for a bit. Disconnect the battery, have a fire extinguisher on hand, attention to fumed (not inside a sealed building), etc. As for air - nothing to worry abo...

Van Wagon in the snow?

We live in the north, and I drive it year round. In previous years, it had old tires with good tread, but old rubber is hard vs the need for softer rubber to grip well on snow and ice. This year I put new tires on it and the van did OK. Not great. It's an unstable vehicle due to the tall sides and s...

A 1989 Vanwagon for your amusement

Would be a fun picture. Bet the Mitsu is narrow enough. I often squeeze it between cars and amuse people with how skinny and flat sided it is.

A 1989 Vanwagon for your amusement

Man, what does that thing weigh? My empty (no rear seats at all) Mitsubishi weighs 3400lbs with me aboard.

Man you are really cornering that girl briskly! I have new shocks and new tires and the alignment and these things are fun to drive in a spirited way.

No trouble here, either. I put new tires on it and had it aligned before a 1000 mile road trip and it was like a new vehicle. Tracked in crosswinds, handled fun on curvy roads, braked straight, and much quieter (old tires get hard as well as shallow tread meaning high velocity air). Installed a pair...

Re: Lets wake this forum up a bit!

Well, I am installing the 3rd starter in 15 months in my Van. For some reason, they have all failed in the same way. The key turns and the solenoid will not start. Easy to put a jumper together so I can still drive it since this is the 3rd time I have had to do this. These are all NAPA starters so t...

Re: Lets wake this forum up a bit!

So, the spinny seats are best taking out with the bolts in the tracks that attach to the floor. That way, you lift up the seats and the tracks and have a flat floor. Otherwise you have to deal with 8 hard bolts under you. Also, can I just say that one of the dumbest automotive things I have ever see...

Re: Lets wake this forum up a bit!

Thanks for the updates. Our Mitsu continues to soldier on and provide a fun way to zip around town on errands and carry stuff. It has a trailer hitch so it also pulled our trailer with a few yards of rock and bark chips. Probably about 4000lbs. My son learned how to back a trailer with it. I opened ...

Lets wake this forum up a bit!

Hey, I often check in here and see nothing going on, so I don't post. Today it made me wonder about the rest of you - if you do the same and don't bother to say hello. So, as Spring arrives here in N. America I thought I'd try and change that just by saying hello and not having any particular questi...

Re: greetings from NC - with a new to us '89 Vanwagon!

Good luck with the maintenance. Once this is taken care of, it may prove to be a nice sturdy little transporter. Ours never fails to start instantly even in the middle of winter when it sat for a month. I put roof racks on it for kayaks, and just discovered a week ago that against all odds our Costc...

Re: greetings from NC - with a new to us '89 Vanwagon!

I recommend getting the factory manual. It was reasonably cheap compared to other factory manuals I've purchased over the years and worth the investment. From it will stem your confidence in doing things by reading about them in advance. Heads up the dist cap/plug wire replacement is a pain due to t...

stereo head unit that fits Van Wagon?

I'm planning to put an audio system in the 88 and when I look on Crutchfield, it warns that essentially nothing fits. Has anyone installed an aftermarket head unit in their Van Wagon that can guide me if this is true? Or does anyone have a parts car missing the radio that could get some dimensions (...

Re: Heads up! Ebay listing - '89 Wagon

Yeah, Interesting it keeps popping up. I think Ebay is probably the best bet, though Craigslist may work better to find a local buyer. Not sure how many people would drop perhaps 1000 to ship a $5000 van. I just looked over the pictures and was again surprised how much rust under it, and in the shot...
