Engine knocking

Hey everyone, Today I noticed my engine in my Delica knocking really badly at times. Not always, but when it does it it sounds really bad. It seem at low rpm, with load it will knock for a few seconds, and then clear up. Also getting heavy smoke when the knocking occurs. Even seems to knock with tra...

Differential gear markings

Hey everyone, A fellow east coast (Canada) Delica owner has a spare limited slip differential for sale. I'm mostly sure that it is the correct ratio, but trading some emails showed that he said the ring had 40 splines and the pinion has 8 splines. That doesn't jive with him saying the pinion rotates...

Re: Project Pokemontero

We've made a little progress on the project. Made a list of things to do, and picked away at some small stuff. Gonna start buying the parts for the head gasket replacement.

Project Pokemontero

Hey guys, I've been on the forum for a few years, but don't post a lot. I've owned my 89 Delica Starwagon for 2 years now, and love every bit of it. Around March of this year I inquired about a 1991 Mitsubishi Montero RS a friend of mine had purchased as a parts car. He told me he still had it in fa...

Re: Temp sensor/gauge not reading

Hey Jesse, That is about where my temp gauge needle sits when driving around. I would say you are within spec. We really need to get together. Now that my life is getting back to normal with the strike being over I should have some more time to interact online, and in person. Let me know what EGT ga...

Re: A 1989 Vanwagon for your amusement

Hey teamtestbot, I know we are semi-local to each other. I was cleaning out my garage, and came across some parts from my 1990 Vanwagon that I no longer need. You are welcome to them if you want. So far I found an old valve cover, rocker arm assembly, brand new water pump, and gasket, cam shaft, fan...

Re: what the heck is going on with my Glow Plug Control Unit?

It did it again tonight. It was clicking like a metronome at one point. What controls the relay?

Re: what the heck is going on with my Glow Plug Control Unit?

Hey guys, Just yesterday afternoon my 89 delica was acting strange. I had driven about 6 miles home and parked the van knowing I would be going back out in about 45 minutes. When I went to leave I waited for the relay clicks and then started the van. Shortly thereafter the relay kept clicking on and...

Re: Ground Starter Location

I don't know the electrical diagram of the Delica specifically, but usually the starter gets its ground from the fact that it is attached to the engine/transmission which is grounded through a large cable or strap from the battery. The whole body/engine block is the ground on most cars I have dealt ...

Re: stereo head unit that fits Van Wagon?

If your van is the same as my 90 LS then you need a double-din stereo. I never replaced the stock one in my 90 LS US-spec van as it worked fine, but I have replaced the stock double-din in my Japanese-spec 89 Delica with a double-din that I bought from ebay after finding it on crutchfield. I forget ...

Re: greetings from NC - with a new to us '89 Vanwagon!

Congrats on your new addition. I loved my 89 LS when I had it, but due to poor owners before me it became a money pit. I sold it on, and then set my sights on getting a real Deli a few years later which I did in 2014. The Vanwagons are actually quite easy to repair. They seem daunting due to the lay...

Where can one buy a replacement that isn't just as old, and presumably worn out?

Seat belt latch issues

Hey guys, On my 89 Delica the drivers side seat belt latch is a major pain the ass. It has progressivly gotten worse over the almost two years I have owned the van. It will not latch sometimes, and I have to fight with it for a few minutes before it will do so. I don't feel comfortable not wearing t...

Re: Boost gauge in stock dash mounted gauge pod?

Any pictures of the Madman gauge mounted in your centre binnacle? Which one did you get the EMS2? Do you know if the gauge can display in Farenheit as well as Celcius?
