Re: rookie question, will my l300 rims fit my l400
Yes, but the centre bore for the L400 is slightly bigger, so they will be tight but still doable. I took a 4" hole saw and stuck emery paper to the outside surface and sanded the centre bore so it doesn't stick as badly. This is a hack though, best is to have the hole machined.

Re: Rocky Mountain Imports
Agreed, RMI runs a good business. Just picked up some Japanese made tie rod ends for the L400 from RMI that are much beefier than the regular ones. If you do any off-roading then you know all about busting the weaker tie rod ends.

Re: EGR blanking plates - DRAWINGS
Many folks have reported that the high-heat silicone eventually fails. I used OE mitsubishi gaskets which are not cheap. Other alternative is to make your own gaskets by cutting up a piece of generic gasket sheet material, like the ones included in this kit: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/EGR-BLANKING-PLATE...

I realize that you have an L300, but the L400 is similar. Here's a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSjDIDCQvPA

Re: Winter Drive Through the Rockies! Recommendations Please!
Done the drive from Calgary to Vancouver many times in winter. Most sketchy section is the just past the old tolls on the Coquihalla heading downhill. I prefer the low road along Hwy 3, slower and longer distance but safer IMO, lots to see and do. Take a dip at Radium Hotsprings, down through Inveme...

Re: L300 Head replacement and timing belt DIY, step by step
Timing belt time! On goes the new tensioner. IMG_20150722_094327.jpg Tricky to get the tensioner and spring into place. Probably a few ways to do this, and this is what I did. Place a small lever bar and push against the spring (towards the drivers side). Pop the spring over the bent metal hook on t...

Fresh dowels on the block. IMG_20150721_132448.jpg Clean the mating surfaces with brake cleaner because it evaporates and leaves no residue. Then place the head gasket. Used compressed air to blow out the head bolt holes and clean off the threads in the block. IMG_20150721_133309.jpg On goes the hea...

Re: L300 Head replacement and timing belt DIY, step by step
On goes the water pump. Straightforward, but watch that you get the correct bolts of the correct grade stamped on the head into the correct hole! See the attached diagram. I used some Permatex RTV gasket maker to stick it all together. IMG_20150717_155953.jpg IMG_20150717_161405.jpg water pump_sm.jpg

Re: L300 Head replacement and timing belt DIY, step by step
Just to backtrack and highlight a few details. On the upper balance shaft bushing the chamfered edge faces inwards. IMG_20150717_145025.jpg Knock out the woodruff key with a flathead screwdriver bit and place in a new one. Makes for a nice snug fit with the crank sprockets. IMG_20150717_145931.jpg I...

Re: Balance shaft.
Upper balance shaft bushing also can't be reversed in order to reuse it. Chamfered edge must face inwards to allow the oil to circulate.
