Re: 4M-40 Block Heater Guide

Good guide, very similar process to the 4D56 that I did last year. I would say that you have to shop around for these parts I believe I saw the same disjointed price point for the 4D56 engine as well between the different shops.

Re: Towing

For the tow attachment you can get a local metal shop to make you one. I had one made with 3/8" steel that fit the bolt pattern for $40. I can send you pictures if required. Some people insist you need a full tow-bar mounted more securely to the frame, but I disagree after towing a trailer for ...

Re: Rough Idle/Stalling

Seeing and confirming that Diesel is leaking out is never a good thing. Identifying the source of the leak is important. It sounds very likely related to your issue of Idling. From the description you give of recently changing the head/gasket; it sounds to me like you had everything working fine and...

Re: Burning coolant and bit of oil : Head?

I would say that the 4D56 has been serving me well. Mind you I am only at 185000. With a blown turbo as the only major breakdown since 60000 kms. I rev my engine quite frequently at the 3500 RPM as I drive it on the highways and have the pedal to the floor. I would say that running high quality oil ...

Re: More 4m40 oil leaks

My mistake, for some reason I got thinking of the 4d56 and timing belts and you clearly said the 4m40. I would agree with your strategy of monitoring oil loss carefully.

Re: More 4m40 oil leaks

Oil from the timing cover usually means a leak in one of the forward facing parts of the engine which is generally the Cam Shafts or Main Crank Shaft seals. The timing belt assembly should not have any oil on it. I have had this problem, and it is usually best to fix at the same time as changing tim...

Re: More 4m40 oil leaks

Hi There;

Pull the top 1/2 of the timing cover and check. If the timing belts and pulleys are coated in oil, it is most likely the front seals. The timing belt cover should be able to come off without carefully having to remove too many pieces in the way...

Re: Timing Issue

New Belts, Tensioners, Cam Shaft, head gasket, Waterpump, thermostat, timing , engine seals and pulley's, keys, while you have it apart. The labour to do this additional work is not much compared to doing it in the first place. The other part that may be worth considering is the oil-pump and oil flo...

Re: 2.8 TD major oil problem

Just thought of another idea as it is on the other side of the motor. Check the dipstick tube entry to the SUMP. This has been known to spay as well. You pull the dipstick tube and put gasket sealer on the outside plug part of the dipstick tube. (The Gasket sealer you choose has to be compatible wit...

Re: 2.8 TD major oil problem

Just thinking of your issue. The only other sources that could be leaking before having to yank the turbo and pay big dollars for this to be repaired: (some of them you most likely checked and I assume you have pulled the timing cover and checked the seals on the front of the engine.) 1) Valve Cover...

Re: 2.5 litre coolant loss

I had this problem and found it was the hoses that go into the firewall for the front heater core. They were splitting at the connector. You can "snip" about 1/2" off and re-attach without too much trouble. Although it is ideal to replace these hoses. You would see lots of nasty corro...

Re: Southern Ontario summer cruise?

I would be into a cruise but i would be a pajero owner rather than a Delica guy. I know of a few spots we could consider a little east of Toronto. Ganaraska for instance is a ATV/4x4 friendly park with lots of sandy sections to consider. The oak-ridges have lots of windy roads north of the city as w...

Scrapyard is one good way to find trim replacements. Car-part.com and look for a montero equivilent.

But I would agree you need to get a different windshield repair consultation

Re: Where can I find new belts?? Please

Hi There; I would recommend pulling out the old belts and getting them matched at either NAPA (Mississauga/Brampton) or Carquest (Oakville). These shops have some good staff in them that will give you the best matching belts. (and they will accept you returning them if the belts do not fit) Avoid cr...

Glad this has worked out now. Do you notice a performance increase with the fresh turbo?
